  • Erika goes to Georgetown High and is on the drill team. I hated to admit that I didn’t know what the drill team was and got a little more filled in on it by Erika and my Trusty Sidekick Megan who assisted that day. I suppose my years of not watching football or any sports except for Olympic volleyball has really set me back in understanding what everyone is crazy about in Texas.

We shot Erika at the Capital, downtown and then at the studio.  She had a lot of spunk and a great smile!

Marni and Darrel got married at the Zilker Clubhouse overlooking Austin. My how the skyline has changed since the last time I was at the Clubhouse. It’s crazy! Marni started off having her hair and make-up done on SOCO then dropped in at her hotel room at the Hotel San Jose to slip her dress on then run, run run up the the club house with her girls as fast as she could. During her Make-up I popped on over to their house where Darrell was getting his tux on. There was something painted all over the stained concrete floor from a ring bearer out of control the night before. Darrell has quite an ability for tying ties without looking in a mirror. He did a double windsor without looking. Wow!

Their wedding was short and after dark overlooking the city lights. They feasted and then danced until the city told them to stop and then left in a pedicab only to return ten minutes later because the San Jose was a long ways away.

Marni in the Hotel San Jose.  What a great place to get ready and have a few pictures!

I suppose this isn’t really an engagement. These two have been married for a little while but wanted some pictures of the two of them that were romantic in nature and hence we call it an engagement. The dogs didn’t cooperate at all with them and their romantic intentions and had to be stored back in the car for a good part of the shoot. I suppose they hadn’t completely explained to the dogs that romance and happiness was the theme because they just kept running away. We shot near a barn across the street from the Dell Diamond and once the dogs were run off to the car, the pictures of the two of them were stellar.

I can’t imagine having more than one baby at once. So much work! But Joella did the work everyday and has two rambunctious little ladies named Maddie and Jackie. Wow! If there was a way to harness the energy these two had there would be no shortage of electricity in the world! Running, jumping, screaming their way through the park caused quite an eventful photo session!

Kristin and Luis enjoyed Rugby. The weekend previous to the shoot Luis had played in a game of rugby where he go a black eye. Wow, I can’t imagine what has to happen in a game to get a black eye, but Luis assured me it happens a lot during a rugby game. No padding and no helmets sounds like it’s got to hurt to me. His eye did heal before the shoot so he looked unblemished for the when I met him and Kristin on election day. What a beautiful day it was too! We started off in SOCO, drove like mad to the 360 bridge and ended our shoot at a little hole in the wall rugby bar near 38th and Guadalupe called Nasty’s where the couple first met.

I’m a hell of an ad agency when I want to be. My son’s class all had to run for class mayor this Monday and due to the fact that the whole family was sick for all of last week we didn’t know about it until the day before. So I whipped this out in two hours for his campaign the night before. Other kids were making promises of candy and amusement park rides, which I thought rather fitting being the political climate of our day and promises of free, free, free from the government but less freedom in the end. So we came up with a campaign that can’t win but looked really damn cool and spoke the truth which can’t be said about any real world politicians. I say, be honest, be right, be forward and write in Edmond for class mayor. He’s the real maverick.
