Whitney and Brian were the most adorable couple who have been together since they were high school sweethearts. Just like us! Erin and Jared found us through Facebook because we shot a friend’s wedding that year. Erin is a serious teacher and Jared is a somewhat goofy Captain in the US Army. The combination of the two is nothing else but an exercise in hilarity as their contrasting personalities are shown in these superb engagement photos at the Texas Capital and the Long Center in downtown Austin!

So Daryl and Deloris were referred by Matt and Rhonda, a fun couple from 2007. They were a little late in the game in wedding planning and only came to us about their wedding after we had already booked their date. But determined to have our style and vision be a part of their wedding they hired us for their engagement session downtown at the Capital and then down at the Long Center. In talking during the shoot Daryl told us he worked for the treasury department, a long name for something we are all familiar with: the IRS. He told us a story about someone who was so upset about the amount that he had to pay in taxes that he sent a package with a 13-page letter and his mother’s ashes, saying he had nothing left to give them. It was good for a laugh and it made my feel a lot better about writing ‘rainbows and unicorns’ on my last check to the feds

Ashley and Daniel were quite a sweet couple. Ashley had been planning on shooting a bridal but instead changed her mind and decided to shoot an engagement around downtown Austin with Daniel which turned out fabulous! After visiting the capital we shot pictures with one of the Play Me Austin pianos at the park near the Palmer Event Center which was ever so amusing since Daniel didn’t seem to be at all musical. Beautiful!

Big fan of UT probably get engagements at the Austin UT campus constantly. With how tight they are about all of their trademarks at UT, I’m surprised that they don’t require a permit to shot anywhere on campus. Kent and Marissa had fond memories of the campus. Like so many people who went to school in Austin at UT, they came all the way back from Houston for a their fun engagement session! After UT we went down to SoCo to shoot some fun pictures at the greetings from Austin sign. Does anyone else thing Marissa looks like Courtney Cox?

Ben and Chelsea were friends of a previous client of ours and just had to have us shoot their engagement pictures! So off we went to shoot engagements at the Texas Capital grounds in downtown Austin. It’s always a treat to visit the Capital but was especially fun because the two had been there not too long before for Chelsea’s game warden graduation earlier that year. After the capital we ran off to the 360 bridge and made the trek up the hill just in time to catch some amazing sunset pictures!

Joy and Kevin had already been married three times to each other by the time we had gotten around to their engagement portraits on Ladybird Lake. As I understand it they got married in a civil ceremony, then they went to Thailand and got married again there then they came back to the Barr Mansion in April of 2010 and got married again. I photographed the Barr Mansion wedding and today we were going to shoot their engagement session. I’m not certain if they had any more weddings between their Barr Mansion wedding and today but that is apparently a story to be told another time. The couple had requested to shoot on Ladybird Lake down the jogging trail from the frigid Barton Springs swimming pool so we trekked around shooting in places I hadn’t been in years. We ended up at the Long Center when we were all done and shot some more fun pictures there. It was lovely!

I think I love engagement sessions more than just about everything else. Well, I suppose I like shooting seniors and bridals just about as much but engagements are so fun because I love the interplay between the couple and photographing them all over Austin as they react to each other. Matt and Brandi were a little quirky, especially Matt who was a John Denver clone. There shoot was very fun and there was a lot of laughing all around. It will be a great deal of fun when their wedding rolls around!

I think Tyler’s mom called us two days before she needed engagement pictures taken and that her son and his fiance would only be in Austin for one day and she was giving them an engagement session. Her son, a United States Marine was going to be shipping off for training for several months in the Mojave the next day and this was their only opportunity. I typically go out of my way to make members of the military a priority and do what ever it takes to work them into the schedule so we shot these and more awesome images at the Texas State Capital an hour or so before we had to be at a wedding for 10 hours. It was well worth it and I am happy I was able to make these images in such a short time for them.

Ben and Kristi are two of the funnest people we had ever had the pleasure of spending time with. They truly enjoy being in each other’s company and were beaming, grinning from ear to ear, and laughing during their entire engagement session. It took quite a bit of effort for all of us to sober up for the stoic poses! Ben has been stationed in Iraq, and the Internet is what keeps them together while he’s there, so we had to get a shot of them with their laptops. Our session started at the Texas Capitol grounds and ended at the Greetings from Austin mural. These amazing mustaches and lips are from Whisker Works. Ben and Kristi totally rocked them during the engagement session! We can’t wait to take more pictures with them at the wedding at Kindred Oaks next February.
